What's on offer

Yoga is a way of moving into stillness in order to experience
the truth of who you are....

Our Yoga and Meditation Workshop with Helen Bennett: Monday 7th January 2013 to Friday 11th January 2013 from 7.00am to 8.35am is Fully Booked out.

CLASSES:

All the yoga classes at GYA are based on the works of the Yoga sage ‘Patanjali’. In brief, Patanjali’s yoga is known as Ashtanga which means eight limbs. These eight limbs prepare your body and mind for what is called Samadhi or the state of pure bliss. This all comes under the path of yoga known as Hatha. Hatha yoga encompasses many ‘styles’ of yoga known today in the western world such as Iyengar, Satyananda and Sivananda.

BEGINNERS/ONGOING - If you are both new to yoga or if you have been a student of yoga for many years this class is for you. These classes are very popular and especially if you are wanting some time for yourself to learn and practice the art of yoga. These classes are a blend of all styles to give you a feel and understanding of what is most comfortable for you.

EXPERIENCED - This class is for you if you practice yoga more than once a week and incorporate your practice into your day living. It is also for you if you wish to learn more about yoga and yourself as you will be encouraged to look deeper into your practice and yourself. You will however need to have sound experience of yoga and understand the Sanskrit terminology and basic principles of asanas before you can attend this class.

RESTORATIVE - The aim of this class is to guide you into a yoga practice if and when you are recovering from illness or injury by using gentle methods with the aid of yoga equipment.

PREGNANCY - No experience of Yoga is required for you to participate in this class as it is conducted on a casual basis for you during any stage of your pregnancy. You will be encouraged to focus on yourself for the 75 minutes (class duration) and to bond with your baby with the gentle yoga movements and relaxation, meditation, visualitation and breathing techniques.

OVER 55'S - You will enjoy this class if you are over 55 and not quite sure of what level of yoga you wish to practice as this class is designed to encourage you to learn first hand about the benefits of yoga in your advancing years and how aspects of yoga can help you to prevent illness, aches and pains. The physical component of the class is presented in a gentle manner and over time you will be encouraged to practice the more traditional yoga postures and movements rather than just the basics and limbering movements. Meditation and relaxation techniques are introduced and practiced in each class. The emphasis of the class is focused around understanding the correct use of the breath as this facilitates movement of your body and alertness of your mind.

MEDITATION - (these classes usually are conducted in short blocks of 4 weeks at a time - 6 students needed to conduct this course) In the Yoga tradition the aim of meditation is to achieve a stillness of your mind. This class' approach to achieving stillness of your mind commences with gentle exercise that prepares you for deep relaxation and then takes you beyond relaxation into silence and stillness. In relaxation, your body is still and comfortable but your mind may frequently wander and in turn, you may go to sleep. In meditation, your mind is single pointed and focussed on a meditation object. Each week the meditation object will vary in order for you to find one most suitable for you so you can enjoy the practice and in turn, progress.

In a state of meditation you will experience:

  •  a feeling of deep inner peace and tranquility,
  •  a liberation from suffering,
  • a deep happiness that arises from within
  • your true nature and
  • an encounter with reality and truth.
