We are a dedicated team of people at our Yoga academy who offer the only government accredited Yoga Teacher and Yoga Therapist training course in Western Australia. We take pride in teaching in a 'hands on' style and giving personal training and mentoring to all our trainees. We welcome students from all schools and styles of Yoga to our training course as our course's prime focus is to train people to be Yoga Teachers and Therapists.
Our first intake of students for this Advanced Diploma of Holistic Classical Yoga Practices 52229 (Yoga Teacher and Therapist training course) was in July 2010. Due to its popularity and the need for people to gain a solid qualification for their time and effort in training we commenced another course in August 2011. Both these courses are currently being presented side by side and we are now considering presenting another course in the very near future as the interest in gaining a government accredited qualification as opposed to a qualification from a yoga business is increasing.
Due the popularity of Yoga and Yoga Teacher Training courses, people are now questionning the difference between a course that is recognised by an association or yoga business and a course that has been government accredited where the latter's qualification verifies the exact knowledge, understanding and skills to be assessed to qualify as a Yoga Teacher or Yoga Therapist.
Although this course is government accredited, its underpinning knowledge and skills are based on the teachings of the great yogi sage Patanjali and many great Yoga masters including Sri Tiramalai Krishnamacharya. Krishnamacharya was a renowned Indian Yoga master, an Ayurvedic healer and a scholar who was credited with 'modernising' yoga practice. He is widely and respectfully known as 'the father of modern Yoga' and his students include B.K.S. Iyengar, K. Pattabhi Jois, T.K.V. Desikachar and Indra Devi. Over time these students all became well recognised teachers throughout the world in their own right for their skills and knowledge of Yoga and their understanding and interpretations of Krishnamacharya's teachings. GYA's Yoga Teacher Training course and classes at the academy are strongly influenced by these renowned teachers to facilitate a well balanced understanding and experience of Yoga.
This revolutionary Nationally Government Accredited course is recognised by Yoga Australia and Australian Association of Yoga Therapists Inc and is suitable for anyone interested in becoming a qualified and recognised Yoga Teacher and Yoga Therapist or simply to further your studies in Yoga.
Greenwood Yoga Academy (GYA) has been granted accreditation from the Training Accreditation Council of Western Australia for the training course to be presented as: Advanced Diploma of Holistic Classical Yoga Practices 52229. GYA prefers to conduct training to a relatively small group of trainees to ensure all receive excellent support and to enable ample time for all trainees to question and comment upon the Yoga techniques for their further knowledge and development.

Teacher Training History
Margaret commenced training and supporting yoga students in their quest to become Yoga Teachers in 2002 when Margaret was the Teacher Training support officer and co-assessor for International Yoga Teachers' Association Inc Correspondence training course students in WA. As this course is based in Sydney it was crucial for students in WA to have a base to practice and learn in a 'hands on' manner to be able to learn how to assist their clients. Some of the Yoga teachers who graduated through IYTA with the support of Margaret are:
- Carol Dawson
- Ethel Drummond
- Andrea Freeman
- Jo Hoskins
