ABOUT GREENWOOD YOGA ACADEMY

" Your body is your temple. Keep it pure and clear for the soul to reside in"
- BKS Iyengar

Established in 1999 by Margaret and Keith Willcocks, Greenwood Yoga Academy has grown and developed into the excellent yoga training and teaching academy it is today and offers you classes of varying styles that cater for all your needs. GYA engages the assistance of a group of dedicated, experienced and qualified Yoga teachers who work with you to ensure you understand the mechanics and fundamentals of Yoga practices and in turn will identify the type of Yoga practices that are most suited for you.

The Greenwood Yoga Academy's name derived from the history and association with the practice of Yoga taught by owner Margaret for over 15 years in the Greenwood area. With the support for the Greenwood Yoga Academy already established, when the move came about to establish Greenwood Yoga Academy in Wangara, it seemed only fitting to align the development of this academy from its roots - Greenwood!

Greenwood also has much symbolic meaning to the practice of Yoga taught and practiced at the academy. With many of the Yoga postures named after animals and insects in the forest, the colour green being synonymous with relaxation and calmness and relating to trees and life force, and green wood associated with flexibility - the name Greenwood was a natural fit.

Whilst green wood is associated with flexibility where sometimes it may need support and assistance to grow and develop, so too within the yoga practice with the support, guidance and assistance from the yoga teacher and with the use of yoga equipment for support. Added to that, wood reminds us of fire and the fire created in our body through our physical practice of asana and pranayama (breathing techniques).

So Greenwood gives us the duality of hot and cool, strong and soft, steadfast and flowing, energizing and relaxing, all of which you can experience in your yoga practice at GYA.

Greenwood Yoga Academy is a modern, spacious and quiet place, where you can enjoy learning and practical experiences of classical Yoga practices. This academy is air-conditioned for your comfort and is furnished with ample yoga equipment for you to use when attending the classes.
